The shepherds need to share an important financial update with you.
Last December, the executive finance team held a Family Financial Meeting. We shared details about our financial reality and the challenges that we face. We’re grateful to be debt free and to have strong cash reserves. But our challenge is best summarized as a negative cash flow, largely due to increased fixed costs.
After extensive analysis, we anticipate our spending to exceed our giving through year end requiring us to begin using those cash reserves. We will have exhausted our pre-funding accounts, which have supplemented our giving last year and this year. Anticipating this, we have actively been adjusting current spending to ease pressure on our reserves, but this path is unsustainable.
The shepherds do not want you to hear us saying that we are not giving enough. This is a generous church, and we recognize that many of you are giving all that you can, and we thank you for your faithful and sacrificial giving. For those of you who have yet to partner with your family here at Northside in financially supporting the work done here, we ask you to consider doing so in the future; it is important that you be a part of that. While our giving has increased every year since 2021, again, for which we are very grateful, it has not kept pace with our increasing expenses. We want to better honor your generosity by positioning ourselves for long-term financial health.
So, our message is this: we’re not asking those of you who financially support Northside to give more; it is the Leadership’s responsibility to reduce and better manage expenses.
The shepherds, finance team, and ministry leaders have been looking at the alternatives to ensure the long-term sustainability of Northside. We realize that we will need to make some difficult decisions, given our current level of contributions and our financial expenditures. This is the pledge we made to you at the Family Financial Meeting last December. The shepherds have been exploring many options for reducing expenses, and we have made progress, but there is work to be done. We plan to update you more fully next month.
As we approach the 50th anniversary for this family in March, we want to be faithful to God’s calling. We desire to be a spiritually healthy family of believers well-poised for the next chapter that He will write. So, we ask you to join us, both the shepherds and ministers, by praying for our future. Ask God to help us navigate this challenge with both faith and courage so we can continue serving God’s mission of love in our city and our world.
