December 26, 2021 | Bruce Utley
This is the time of year in which our minds are drawn to the story of the birth of Jesus. Yet, it seems that the implicit commercialism and sentimentality of the season often blinds us to some of the real truths inherent in that story. Our Christmas cards today depict New England towns buried in snow, frolicking children and decorated reindeer, and cuddly looking angels with golden halos. Yet, those sentimental scenes often detract from real power of Jesus’s arrival. The true story of Christmas is not sentimental; it is dramatic, ironic, and at times terrifying and shocking. Watch our service from Sunday, December 26, with a special message from Bruce Utley, to learn about the reality behind the story; it is a tale of great faith that points to a great God.
