The Northside YG (youth group) exists to provide a wecloming, fun, and loving environment that continues the spiritual development of our youth. We offer classes, small groups, service opportunities, and relationship-building activities for students in 6th–12th grades. These are often tailored for our specific middle school and high school ministries, but we enjoy a number of combined events as well.
We believe that God has gifted our young people to serve in many different ways starting right now. It is our goal to help them discover those gifts, and provide opportunities to serve others using these gifts. In doing so, they provide new life and energy to our Northside body, as well as learn how to be a healthy member of the body of Christ once they graduate from our ministry.

We believe the Bible is amazingly cool and invites us into a lifelong journey of discovery and transformation! We eagerly invite you to join us in this daily walk, as we seek to grow deeper in relationship with our creator.
During the school year we offer Sunday morning classes, Sunday evening small groups, and Wednesday gatherings. During the summer we have a full calendar of activities including bible studies, local outings, service opportunities, camps, and mission trips.

Current Series
Our friends are some of the most important people in our lives. They’re the people we’ve spent countless hours with telling stories, laughing, and creating memories together. How do you build the kinds of friendships that last? And what do you do if you feel like your friendships aren’t everything you want them to be?
In this series from the Gospels, we’ll take a look at how Jesus treated the people he cared about in order to learn how we can better treat our friends. Through Jesus, we’ll discover friends don’t miss a chance to care for each other, aren’t afraid to challenge each other, don’t let differences divide them, and aren’t afraid to talk about what they believe.
Join us upstairs on Sunday morning for a special month of combined classes.

Ben Crain
Youth Minister
Ben Crain began serving as the interim Youth Minister in August 2020, and became the full-time minister in January 2021. After a long career in Retail Management, Ben is thrilled to be working in full-time ministry, alongside the youth of Northside. Ben has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting/Drawing from Abilene Christian University. He loves incorporating his passion for art and all things visual, into his teaching of God’s word. His other interests, like Star Wars, Marvel, Disney, hiking, sports, and eating, help connect him to the youth group. Or, as some like to say, he doesn’t act or talk like someone his age. Ben takes this as a compliment. He sees the young people of Northside as a mission field, and feels called to share the love of Jesus with them, in the hope they will choose to follow Jesus and be blessed all of their days. He and his wife Rachel, have been married 22 years, and enjoy living in Bulverde with their two dogs.
Rachel Starr
Associate Youth Minister
Rachel Starr is incredibly excited to be joining the ministry team at Northside and working alongside Ben with the youth group. She loves baking, hiking, and playing all kinds of sports, as well as nerding out over Harry Potter and Percy Jackson. She has served as a youth intern for three different churches during her time in college and is eager to enter into full-time youth ministry now. Rachel is passionate about walking alongside teens as they navigate who they are and how to live meaningful, Christ-like lives. Rachel graduated from Lubbock Christian University with her Bachelor of Arts in Youth and Family Ministry and loves using that degree to serve the youth of the church today.
