Connect with us

The Northside YG exists to provide a safe, fun, and loving environment that continues the spiritual development of our youth. We offer classes, small groups, service opportunities, and relationship-building activities for students in 6th–12th grades. These are often tailored for our specific middle school and high school ministries, but we enjoy a number of combined events as well.

We believe that God has gifted our young people to serve in many different ways starting right now. It is our goal to help them discover those gifts, and provide opportunities to serve others using these gifts. In doing so, they provide new life and energy to our Northside body, as well as learn how to be a healthy member of the body of Christ once they graduate from our ministry.

Come join us!

We believe the Bible is amazingly cool and invites us into a lifelong journey of discovery and transformation! We eagerly invite you to join us in this daily walk, as we seek to grow deeper in relationship with our creator.

During the school year we offer Sunday morning classes, Sunday evening small groups, and Wednesday gatherings. During the summer we have a full calendar of activities including bible studies, local outings, service opportunities, camps, and Wilderness Trek.

Current Series

True Story: Who We Are & Who God Is

Many of our favorite movies, from Toy Story to Moana, tell the stories of characters who are on a journey to discover who they are and what they were created to do. The stories in Scripture are like this too, but with one big difference: in the Bible, humans aren’t the main characters — God is. In this series, we’ll explore the stories of people like Cain and Abel, Elijah, Naomi, Ruth, Esther, and some of the earliest Jesus-followers in order to see that who we are can best be understand in the context of who God is. When we discover who our Creator is, we can better understand who we were created to be. Because of who God is, we can trust how God has made us, we can do difficult things, we can embrace the unknown, and we can take risks for others.

Tip of the month

Your teenager is in the middle of an identity crisis, but there’s something you can do to help. Tell them more stories. Your kid probably doesn’t seem very interested in your stories of your teenage years, but this is really important. When you share your personal stories of what it was like to be a teenager, you help normalize their experience and assure them that what they’re thinking, feeling, and experiencing isn’t all that weird.

Ben Crain

Youth Minister

Ben Crain began serving as the interim Youth Minister in August 2020, and became the full-time minister in January 2021. After a long career in Retail Management, Ben is thrilled to be working in full-time ministry, alongside the youth of Northside. Ben has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting/Drawing from Abilene Christian University. He loves incorporating his passion for art and all things visual, into his teaching of God’s word. His other interests, like Star Wars, Marvel, Disney, hiking, sports, and eating, help connect him to the youth group. Or, as some like to say, he doesn’t act or talk like someone his age. Ben takes this as a compliment. He sees the young people of Northside as a mission field, and feels called to share the love of Jesus with them, in the hope they will choose to follow Jesus and be blessed all of their days. He and his wife Rachel, have been married 19 years, and enjoy living in Bulverde with their two dogs.
