Youth Ministry

Join us for Sunday classes at 10:30 a.m. and Wednesday gathering at 6:30 p.m. in the Youth Room.

The Northside YG (youth group) exists to provide a wecloming, fun, and loving environment that continues the spiritual development of our youth. We offer classes, small groups, service opportunities, and relationship-building activities for students in 6th–12th grades. These are often tailored for our specific middle school and high school ministries, but we enjoy a number of combined events as well.

We believe that God has gifted our young people to serve in many different ways starting right now. It is our goal to help them discover those gifts, and provide opportunities to serve others using these gifts. In doing so, they provide new life and energy to our Northside body, as well as learn how to be a healthy member of the body of Christ once they graduate from our ministry.

Come join us!

We believe the Bible is amazingly cool and invites us into a lifelong journey of discovery and transformation! We eagerly invite you to join us in this daily walk, as we seek to grow deeper in relationship with our creator.

During the school year we offer Sunday morning classes, Sunday evening small groups, and Wednesday gatherings. During the summer we have a full calendar of activities including bible studies, local outings, service opportunities, camps, and mission trips.

Current Series

The best way to know about someone is to let them tell you who they are. We may think we know who Jesus is, but have we let him tell us in his own words? What might happen if we made space for Jesus to speak for himself?

There are seven times Jesus directly told his disciples who he was. In these “I am” statements, he shared with them what it meant to follow him, his heart for others, and how his followers can strengthen their relationships with him and God. In this series, we’ll dive into Jesus’ words about himself to learn how his words can reshape our lives today.

Join us upstairs on Sunday mornings for middle school and high school classes.

Ben Crain

Youth Minister

Ben Crain began serving as the interim Youth Minister in August 2020, and became the full-time minister in January 2021. After a long career in Retail Management, Ben is thrilled to be working in full-time ministry, alongside the youth of Northside. Ben has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting/Drawing from Abilene Christian University. He loves incorporating his passion for art and all things visual, into his teaching of God’s word. His other interests, like Star Wars, Marvel, Disney, hiking, sports, and eating, help connect him to the youth group. Or, as some like to say, he doesn’t act or talk like someone his age. Ben takes this as a compliment. He sees the young people of Northside as a mission field, and feels called to share the love of Jesus with them, in the hope they will choose to follow Jesus and be blessed all of their days. He and his wife Rachel, have been married 22 years, and enjoy living in Bulverde with their two dogs.

Rachel Starr

Associate Youth Minister

I am incredibly excited to be joining the ministry team at Northside and working alongside Ben with the youth group. I love baking, hiking, and playing all kinds of sports, as well as nerding out over Harry Potter and Percy Jackson. I have served as a youth intern for three different churches during my time in college and I am eager to enter into full-time youth ministry now. I am passionate about walking alongside teens as they navigate who they are and how to live meaningful, Christ-like lives. I am graduating from Lubbock Christian University with my Bachelor of Arts in Youth and Family Ministry and I cannot wait to use that degree to serve the youth of the church today.
