May 2017 marked the 10th year that the Northside family has been preparing breakfast at least once a month for the SAMMC Fisher Houses. Sixteen volunteers sign up to help provide encouragement to the wounded warriors and help their families receiving care at Brooke Army Medical Center.
Breakfast is also provided for the warriors in the Barracks behind the Fisher Houses. we recently began preparing breakfast at the VA Fisher House for the veterans and families receiving treatment in the Medical Center. Eight volunteers sign up once a quarter to help with this effort. The Fisher House Ministry is funded by donations from members and friends as well as an occasional donation from the Northside Foundation. Through these donations and supportive volunteers, we were also able to provide van shuttle service from and to the airport for the 2017 Gold Star Mothers Convention. The Gold Star Mothers are women who have lost sons in combat.
Another enjoyable effort of the ministry is arranging a special party during the Christmas holiday season in which Angel Tree gifts are given to the SAMMC Fisher House residents and embroidered blankets to the veterans and families at the VA.
